The Balloon Track Project examines a controversial 32-acre brownfield in Eureka, California, using text, photographs, artifacts, and 3-dimensional models to describe this abandoned trainyard’s history, sociology, and environmental condition. The project is organized around six themes—including the Balloon Track's legacy industry, current uses, and its resilient ecology—and considers the site from a variety of academic and aesthetic perspectives. Below are images and installation views from this project's exhibition in 2001 at Humboldt State University's First Street Gallery in Eureka, CA.
